THE YURT at The Yellow House
The Yurt is nestled high on Observation among stone pines and pepper trees with stunning views of the canyon, nearby forests and hiking trails. At night, one can hear all the sounds of the canyon, like a symphony.
Our artist residents stay in a circular 30' Yurt. The Yurt has a sizable living space with a full sized bed, walk-in closet, full bathroom shower/tub, kitchenette, and wifi. To sleep and exist in a circular area affects mood and imagination.
Melissa Lockwood
We’re thrilled to have Melissa Lockwood, our first artist-in-residence.
Melissa Lockwood is an interdisciplinary artist, with an MFA from the University of Iowa. She works freely, moving from medium to medium, whether it is storytelling, performance, video, fashion design or poetry. Melissa deeply cares about the Earth’s ecosystems and Human rights. This is where her content emerges from. Her performance work is self reflective and integrates her experiences.
Melissa’s environmental work is expressed primarily through fashion design. She has focused on raising awareness about pollution caused by the mass disposal of fabrics in the garment manufacturing industry. Her writing is cathartic and deeply felt, a new type of sharing is emerging with what was a private activity.
We look forward to sharing aspects of Melissa’s experience at the Yellow House.
