THE YURT at The Yellow House
The Yurt is nestled high on Observation among stone pines and pepper trees with stunning views of the canyon, nearby forests and hiking trails. At night, one can hear all the sounds of the canyon, like a symphony.
Our artist residents stay in a circular 30' Yurt. The Yurt has a sizable living space with a full sized bed, walk-in closet, full bathroom shower/tub, kitchenette, and wifi. To sleep and exist in a circular area affects mood and imagination.
We schedule a number of activities at the Yellow House throughout the year, which include guided art experiences, salons, discussion groups, and exhibitions.
Guided Art Experiences
Participants explore various mediums: charcoal, watercolor, paint, photography, language, sound or objects. Our pace is relaxed as we experiment and develop artworks. We may sit on a deck overlooking Topanga Canyon or venture out onto trails. Each experience is a unique guided exploration and art making opportunity.
Some of the places we’ll explore may include trails off the last dirt road serviced by LA County, a loop with a mountain spring at its center, Rock World with a landscape defined by monolithic boulders or a labyrinth overlooking the ocean.
Nearby trails offer a grandeur of canyon, mountain, and ocean views, as well as interesting details, tunnel passages, and infinite views from peaks. With each guided experience, we provide art supplies, and prepared surfaces to work. Our portable studio setups are simple and light to carry.
Salons
The Yellow House hosts events including exhibitions, readings, performances and presentations by our resident artists. These intimate gatherings offer opportunities for presentation of new work.
We also hold a regular monthly discussion group about aesthetics and contemporary consciousness.
Our exhibitions, "Home Shows", are hosted by various homes in Topanga and Malibu where art is shown in the context of a living space.
